This project, created in Photoshop, shows my attempt to illustrate an Emily Dickinson poem in a novel way. My message to communicate, aside from the poem itself, was that the poet was able to break the chains the poem speaks of through the defiant act of writing the poem.
I used layer transparencies to add depth to the energy burst emanating from the shattering chain.
I modified the black and white source photo of Emily Dickinson, adding colors (including a gradient) and a subtle texture to create a more dynamic version of the original image.
I carefully adjusted the colors on the chain to make it appear more antiqued than the source image.
